Salonpas Review

My husband and I are older- meaning some aches and pains, but this winter, David broke his ankle.
He had a plate on one side and screws on the other and was on pretty heavy pain meds for a few weeks.

I was lucky enough to be introduced to salonpas pain patches via a twitter party and had received some samples. I actually had my doubts, and hadn't tried them myself even though I had plenty of aches and pains due to taking over the shoveling since hubby couldn't do it this winter.

Hubby had just been put into a 'walking boot', and pain meds were being decreased. He had tried various rubs and creams that didn't seem to do much and he couldn't wrap over them either since their instructions generally say not to. He needed pain relief in that specific area, and something that could be wrapped.  I remembered the salonpas patches I had gotten a couple weeks prior, and told him it couldn't hurt to try them.

To say I was amazed is an understatement. He cut one patch in half and applied it to either side of his ankle. It didnt bother the incision ,(pretty well healed), there was no iriitation and he was able to wrap over the salonpas patches. He said it felt great and he could feel them working! It made using his walking boot bearable, and I went to WalMart and purchased more. He still will use a salonpas patch over taking an asprin or other pain reliever now if it is a muscle ache or localized pain.

I give the Salonpas patch a two thumbs up!

Holiday Tech Makeover

Technology sure could change my Holidays & help me in my day to day life!

My husband runs a small business, and being up to date would be a wonderful thing! He doesn't have a laptop to write estimates up in the field (he is a carpenter) so it is always up to me to do it on an older desktop when he gets home. It would save him time being able to make notes, or show potential customers pictures of past jobs, and to be able to reference prices etc when asked. It would help a small business become more successful and alot more professional!

My husband works hard, so the Sony TV? Well lets say he could watch his Packers in style, kick back and get some well earned rest!

I have a small out of pocket cat rescue- it would be great to be wireless here at home! I often take pictures of cats that are ready for forever homes, and spend way too much time glues to this computer chair- being wireless would be a dream that Intel could provide!

Intel at http://intel.ly/IntelSite could make this dream a reality!

So I am entering the contest at Blissfully Domestic & hoping for the best ! http://bit.ly/BDIntelGive

As you get Older

As you get older, there are more funerals. I am not talking about the 60 and 70ish age group- it's the late 40s and early 50's this seems to begin (if you're lucky enough not to have experienced it sooner)

There are friends, relatives, people you have known, and it always seems to take you by surprise. With some, it isn't unexpected if they have lead risky lifestyles, but even then, your own mortality hits you in the face.

I remember when my Dad passed away- I was 15, but my own mortality didn't surface. When my Mother passed when I was 35, it was a fleeting thought, although the word 'orphan' had a meaning to me as both parents were gone.

Now, having turned 50, almost on a weekly basis, there are of course 'older' people like previous teachers or 'elderly' relatives who pass away, but, mixed in are peers. Classmates, friends etc are amongst those who have passed away. The 'cause' of course, is never old age- although occasionally they say natural causes.

Today, an Uncle who is only 10 years older went in- he is to have quadruple bypass and there is a chance a leg will be amputated. He lived right, never smoked, never drank, he tithed, the man could have been a priest, and now he is hurting. It makes a person wonder if anything makes a difference.

And of course, is what is beyond.

No more funerals for awhile............. please.

Comes the Dawn

Tonight one of my husbands friends lay dying.

Just last Saturday, he felt short of breath, and people convinced him to go to the E.R. He has very good insurance, so going in wasn't an issue. While there, the E.R scanned his lungs when they couldn't figure out what his problem could be -they thought they saw something and told him he should see his family Dr. the next day. or on Monday.

On Monday, he felt worse. He still was having a bit of trouble catching his breath, and his side hurt. He had more X-rays, and then he heard the news. He had lung cancer. He not only had lung cancer though, it had migrated and spread to his liver and kidneys.

My husbands friend had a death sentence on Monday, and he 'disappeared' from sight- he didn't go have a drink after work as he wasn't going to work. He was on painkillers, he was dying , and he wanted to be left alone. There was nothing modern medicine could do as the cancer was quickly spreading from organ to organ.

It has been exactly one week, my husbands friend hasn't been in touch with anyone and tonight he was admitted to the ER once again. His kidneys are failing he is shutting down. His wishes are he have no visitors except his family, no friends as he doesn't want them to see him 'this way'.

My husband is frantic. He called the likely hospital - and was told no visitors. My husband isn't in control and went to the bar with other friends to remember and think. He is hurt his friend doesn't want to see him, that he can't tell him how much he liked his company and enjoyed their time together.

His friend wasn't the 'likely' suspect to be taken over first by lung cancer and have it spread so quickly- he is 54, doesn't smoke, is a light drinker, is trim and looked to be in good health.

Tomorrow, come the dawn, I think my husband will lose a friend, I hope he is able to remember him with a smile.
